Soundium: Enabled fused theory, practice and experiences in the field of music technology. The largest event of its type in the Baltics hosted DJ and studio gear testing, lectures, discussions, workshops and performances, all under one roof.

About and around music technology
The main goal of the event was to demonstrate and educate. Yet the most important part of Soundium: Enabled was its participant, coming with their own approach to the creative process, so the door was open to anyone and networking was strongly encouraged. The second edition grew from a demo hall and a lecture room into six spaces: the demo space, a dedicated Pioneer DJ space, two soldering workshops, the Hardware Camp for collectors, and the Renegades of Bump Incubator, where beatmakers produced a track in two hours from a fresh sample pack.

Demo Space
A designated getting-your-hands-on-gear area. Various equipment, part of it hot and new: from DJ turntables to modular synths, drum machines and DAW controllers. Brand representatives were around, so tips came straight from the professionals.

Pioneer DJ Space
Where you stopped by to become a DJ, or to upgrade your setup. Two of the local best, DJ Swix and DJ Mamania, hung around offering scratch lessons and performing routines, and the Pioneer DJ gear was open to test on your own.

Bastl Instruments Workshop
Bastl are known not only for their Eurorack modules but for their geeky instruments as well. A community-driven company, experienced the proper way: gathered around a table, soldering. Seats were limited and went by registration.

Blokas Workshop
Blokas come from just around the block, and these Lithuanians already had DIY electronics projects in their portfolio. They shared their knowledge in a registration-only workshop.

Hardware Camp
A new space dedicated to gear porn. Collectors, geeks, hardware lovers and wigglers were invited to show off their vintage, unique or weird equipment and meet like-minded individuals.

Renegades of Bump Incubator
Pre-selected beatmakers had two hours to create a new track from a new sample pack during the event. Prizes: Ableton Push 2 with Live 10 Suite, Arturia KeyLab Essential 49 with additional software, and a 100 € Soundium voucher. The three winners were awarded in the lecture space at 15:35.

Lectures, discussion and performances
At times you can feel like you need a little push or motivation to keep moving forward with your music. The lecture space was that push: creators and brand ambassadors shared what was hot on the market and what was cooking in their studios, followed by two rare, state-of-the-art local performances.

Steinberg
Certified Steinberg trainer and product specialist Dmitry Odinoky presented Steinberg, one of the world's leading software makers for all things audio production, and its integration with hardware.

Ableton Live
Wavetable sound design
Certified Ableton trainer Mateusz Telega introduced the Wavetable synth and its possibilities. He called it his favourite on-the-desert-island synth, and by the end of the lecture most of the room agreed.

Our neighbouring innovators from Latvia have a serious fetish for pedals and Tesla coils. They are also behind the Motor Synth, the world's first electro-mechanical synth, shown and heard live.

Bastl not only led a workshop but also represented their brand in the lecture space. To see how the Czechs jam, you had to take a seat.

Interview
Kim Bjørn
A well-known figure among those who not only use electronic music instruments but also like to read and know more about them. With his third gear-related book, Pedal Crush, successfully funded via Kickstarter, Kim shared his thoughts about the connection between us and machines.

Renegades of Bump Awards
A short ceremony: the three best tracks of the ROB Incubator, selected by the jury, were played to the public, and the three best beatmakers were presented with prizes.

BLEACH CULT
The most recent project of Vytis Puronas, sound designer and member of lo-fi synthpop band Soy Farm. Modular synthesizer and microphone. Crooked, hypnotising raw analogue basslines and murky vocals wandering in space. Slow rock'n'roll, gentle punk rock, no drums and guitars.

Local performance
Girnų Giesmės
A project at the roots of the Lithuanian post-industrial scene. Influenced by the Baltic worldview from the very beginning, it still conveys it uniquely: drone, ambient and industrial electronics intertwined in enveloping sound spaces. The live performances are elemental, primordial.

Kablys Club
Kauno g. 5, Vilnius, LT
Soundium: Enabled took place at the well-known Kablys Club, one of the most important electronic music venues not only in Vilnius but in Lithuania as a whole. Great artists appear at Kablys all the time, and the club is known for its open-minded, genre-friendly concept.

Was a ticket required?+
No. Soundium: Enabled was, and is, absolutely free.
What language were the presentations in?+
English, except the local discussion panel, which was held in Lithuanian.
How did the demo hall work?+
Equipment could only be tried out with headphones or monitors, so visitors were asked to bring their own headphones and a 3.5 mm to 6.3 mm adapter.
Could I bring my own setup?+
Yes, that was the Hardware Camp: vintage gear, DIY synths and gadgets, modular racks, drum machines. Registered in advance, arranged with the team.
Where did out-of-town visitors stay?+
We recommended 5B Hostel, upstairs from Kablys Club, or Comfort Hotel very close to the venue.
