Shure MV6 Gen 2: The Same Easy Mic, Now You Get the Controls

Shure MV6 Gen 2 White on a gaming desk in front of a PC and monitor

TL;DR

  • Shure MV6 Gen 2: a dynamic USB-C gaming and streaming mic, now in black and a new all-white finish.
  • Same capsule and Voice Isolation as the original; the upgrade is control. Auto Level and the Denoiser are now adjustable, plus a 5-band EQ and three presets saved on the mic.
  • Longer 2 m USB-C cable, colour-matched stand with an isolation base, 5/8" thread for a boom arm.
  • €179 at Soundium, shipping in October 2026. Pre-orders are open.

Introduction

The original MV6 was the mic we kept recommending to people who wanted to get off a headset without buying an interface. It sounded right out of the box, it was USB-C only, and it cost a fraction of an XLR setup. Its one weak spot was control: the clever processing was mostly on or off.

Gen 2 fixes exactly that. Shure kept the cardioid dynamic capsule and the Voice Isolation Technology, and opened up the processing behind them. Auto Level Mode now lets you choose your target level and how fast the mic reacts. The Real-time Denoiser has a slider. There's a 5-band EQ on top of the Dark, Natural and Bright tone presets, and Speech, Singing and Instrument presets that switch the whole chain at once. Whatever you set is stored on the microphone, so it travels with you from PC to phone.

The other news is visual: a true all-white version, with white flocked foam, a white stand and a white cable. For camera-facing setups that's not a small thing.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Adjustable Auto Level Mode. Pick how loud your voice sits and how quickly the mic responds. Slow gives a smooth podcast feel; fast catches a clutch-moment shout without clipping.
  • Adjustable Real-time Denoiser. Slide it up to remove fans, keyboards and roommates, or back off to keep a natural room sound.
  • 5-band EQ and Smart Presets. Tune your own tone or use the one-slider Dark / Natural / Bright option. Presets for Speech, Singing and Instrument.
  • Digital Popper Stopper. Plosives are handled on board, so no pop filter in front of your face on camera.
  • Settings live on the mic. Configure once in MOTIV Mix (Windows, macOS) or the MOTIV mobile apps, then plug into another device and keep the same sound.
  • Tap-to-mute you can switch off. One touch mutes silently, and if you keep hitting it by accident, you can disable it in the app.
  • Ready out of the box. Colour-matched stand with an isolation base, 2 m USB-C cable, 3.5 mm headphone jack for zero-latency monitoring, and a standard 5/8" thread for a boom arm later.

Real-World Reactions

"Throughout my testing, voices consistently sounded warm, natural, and broadcast-ready with remarkably little effort."

Daniel Rubino, Windows Central

"More importantly, it sounds good before you open the software."

Daniel Rubino, Windows Central

"Gamers and streamers aren't audio engineers, and they shouldn't have to be to sound great."

T Banks, Product Manager at Shure, Shure launch announcement

Windows Central's one real criticism was the MOTIV Mix software, which it found less polished than rival suites. Worth knowing, though most people will set it up once and leave it.

Who It's For

Get it if you game or stream and want to move up from a headset mic, you take Teams calls from the same desk, or you want a clean black or white mic on camera without learning gain staging.

Look elsewhere if you plan to grow into an audio interface and XLR chain (the MV7+ or MV7i give you USB plus more), or if you want hands-on hardware knobs for gain and tone. The MV6 Gen 2 does that work in the app.

Final Thoughts

Gen 2 doesn't chase specs or RGB. It keeps what made the MV6 easy to recommend, the sound before you touch anything, and hands you the controls the first version was missing. For most streamers and gamers, that's the right trade. We'll update this post once one's on our bench.
